As teachers, we are often viewed as models of behaviour for our students. In what way might this apply to the use of technology. What behaviours might we be expected to demonstrate for our students and why? On the other hand, what would happen if we didn't?

In giving students access to the world, and the sum of human knowledge, we forget that we also provide the world and the sum of future human knowledge access to our students.

This post has been divided into three sections, two videos and one question. The first video demonstrates the consequences of having a digital life and what is really happening with our data. The second looks at how we use and share information and what proper consumption and creation are with digital assets. The question that I pose to each of you is: What happens if the consequences for how we use and share information last long after we are aware of their impact?

1) Consequences:

2) Consumption of media and behaviour:

3) Question:
What simple things can you do to be a model to your students what safe and ethical behaviour is when using technology? Write your answer in the comment section of this post.

  2. We are responsible to teach our students to use copyright legally and we need to respect others. Using technology and media are important but we need to understand what we do legally and concern others are also significant!

  3. As a teacher, we should be a good model for students. When we use the pictures/information from the Internet, we must show the reference. We should also explain clearly about the right of a creator/a consumer and what the copyright is. The most important thing is cultivate students' positive attitude of using the technology.

  4. When we are bring the students to the ‘world 2.0’, we need to inform them of the consequences of what they do just like we would tell them to stop when they see a red traffic light. In the internet, there’s no such thing as a traffic light, therefore, we need to teach them what they should and shouldn’t do.
As a role model, we could cite our resources in our daily teaching materials and most importantly point it out in our teaching. When students are used to such practice, they would do it themselves as well. We may also paraphrase our work instead of direct copying. Moreover, we shall suggest students to browse certain websites that provide free content (CC0).

  5. -We can teach students the concept of copyright when they are small. We can also highlight the importance of using online resources and information legally. As students may be too young to under the above concept, we can take stealing things from a shop as an example to help them understand the concept better.
We can give tips to students to show that what online behavior is acceptable
-I think we can also demonstrate how to use those resources legally. Demonstration may be the best way to show students a model.

  7. 1. Ask the students to state the source of the photos or information that they get from the internet.
    2. Show them some websites where they can download the pictures free.
    3. Encourage them to create their work.
    4. Tell them how to be a good digital citizen. Give them some examples.

-Teacher should tell students the power of using technology. Using technology is easy and convenient for self-learning and to get information and communicate with others.
    - However there's something we must be alert and careful, like the personal information and passwords. Uploading information to the internet like the postings on newspaper. If you don't want everybody in the world know the thing, you should think the consequcency before posting things, pictures and videos on the internet and also chatting with someone online.

  9. The impacts of electronic tattoos are long and we could not control how long and how far they would affect our students. Therefore, we may not post students’ ‘funny’ photos into the internet. If we really want to post, we should ask them or even their parents for permission.
To respect the copyrights, we should not upload files or pictures that are not created by us. We should not share links that violates the copyrights. And teach them to respect others’ works and effort.

  10. We need to let students know how we should use the technology safely and morally and the reason why. What consequences will they be suffered if they do not use the technology appropriately and consequently. Teachers give students some examples of the news about the inappropriate use of personal information that affect personal privacy, lives, reputation and may be families.

  11. Being a teacher, we need to educate our students the importance of the privacy on the internet. We have to set clear limits about what is allowed and what is not allowed for students to do. Beside that, we may educate the parents about ethical technology use, for example, through parents meeting or school newsletters
We may also show students how to find sources on the internet and how to use them, for example, state the reference or how to modify the sources.

  12. To be a model to my students what safe and ethical behaviour is when using technology:
When we teach by using technology, we should quote all the e-resources we use.
Sometimes we would use the pictures of students, we can ask them before we use the them.
I always tell them to ask before they take a photo of others. If their classmates do not want to be taken ,ask other, don't be angry!

  13. Nowadays we interact with different kinds of electronic devices every day. As teachers, we have to teach our students what their responsibilities and rights are when they are using these e-resources. We can be a good model to our students. When we prepare the teaching resources, we should use the resources with permission. At the same time, students should recognize what resources can be used with the permission. Do we need to get the permission from the relevant authority before downl0ading it ?
On the other hand, students may create their own work through the net. They should understand their rights. Do their work protect from the copyright ?
After recognizing the responsibilities and rights, students may interact with different electronic devices safely and appropriately.

  14. We should teach our students to follow the laws of using information online and respect others. Everyone must know that they have to be responsible for what they do. People can find out what we do easily. Therefore students must think before they do.
If students need to use the online information, they must respect the copyright.
If students want to give comments/ suggestions on some people/ incidents, they should state their opinions properly, not attacking others or saying false things.
Students should also know how to protect their privacy when they are on the internet. They should not share too much personal information online in order to protect themselves.

  15. We teachers are responsible to explanin to students what copyright is. They have to use the info from the Net legally and with respect.
Be a good model we could state where the source from when we share or use other's resource.

  16. Nowadays, it is too easy to get pictures, information ,videos or other e-resources from the internet. But we need to pay attention to the copyright though it is electronics.
I agree very much with the 'Tattoo' video, when we use internet, there is a history marked. So, everyone needs to take their responsibity to what they have said or done. We must be very careful to the privacy, copyright and responsility. As a teacher, we must alert what we should do or what we shouldn't do in order to act as a good model.

  17. 1. We can try to show them how we quote some information from different sources.

    2. After children has created something by apps, like Adobe Spark or Book Creator, teachers can teach them how to protect their own work because they are the "authors" of their masterpieces. This can help arouse their awareness on the importance of copyright and privacy.

    3. Nowadays, everyone can write anything online on forums or blogs. However, some people do not really think clearly before they write. Some words may lead to some serious consequences, like bullying or committing suicide in extreme cases. Teachers can also talk about the responsibility as the users of Internet.

  18. We can teach our students more about computer literacy and copyright in our class. We can demonstrate the good and bad manners while using the information technology. Teachers can discuss such behaviour with their students. Teachers can also encourage the responsible and good manners, while punish the irresponsile behaviour.

  19. As a teacher we should be a good model for the students. When we download some resource from the internet, we should let the students know the real source, where it come from... We should teach the students to use the legal source to download the things too. This the everyone's responsibility to use the resources in the internet.

  20. There are two ways to do it. First, I'll ask my students to safeguard their passwords of different e-learning accounts that they are asked to accessed for. On the other hand, I'll ask them to give credit to the authors and sources of their references when they do their presentation and assignments as there are intellectual property rights to protect everyone's creation in the Net.

  21. The first important thing that teachers have to do is to talk about the ethics of using the Internet and the e-resources. We have to discuss with our students of how to be responsible consumers of the media. As everyone can access, create, edit and share the information, every time we post something on the Internet, we have to bear the consequences of it. The consequences could even last longer than our lives. As everyone of us can be the creator or artist of those e-resources, we want others to respect the work that we have created, we have to teach our students how to respect other’s benefits in the e-world as well.

  22. It is important to teach students how to respect others in using digital devices. They need to make use of media, music, books, images, games, softwares and so on in a legal way. They cannot disclose other people's information withour permission so as to casue unnecessary troubles. Students are also have responsibility to use a legal source instead.
